Lessons from the Workshop

Potential is not something you possess. It's something you express.

Founders talk about potential like it's stored somewhere — in the idea, the team, the market. It isn't. It only exists in what actually gets expressed.

Almost every founder I meet is sitting on potential. The deck says so. The market size says so. The early users say so.

But potential kept in reserve is indistinguishable from potential that was never there. It only becomes real at the moment of expression — a decision made, a scope cut, a customer served, a thing shipped and shown.

This is why clarity matters more than capacity. Most teams don't lack ability. They lack a clear enough view of the problem to express the ability they already have.

The work, then, isn't to find more potential. It's to remove whatever is standing between the founder and the expression of it.

If there's potential in your company that hasn't been expressed yet, two hours is usually enough to find out what's holding it.
